El Paso County Poverty Assessment (2022)
El Paso Poverty Assessment Using Thematic Maps (2022)
Completed: September 2024
Project Description: RStudio's libraries and tools such as dplyr (used to manipulate data), tmap (used to create thematic maps), sf (used to encode spatial vector data), and data.table (used to group tables) were used to conduct an analysis of the rates of poverty throughout El Paso County, Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2022. Usually below 125% poverty is a guideline by federal agencies to determine public assistance. For this study, I found that there is a correlation between high number of families, high percentage of renter occupied families, as well as below 50 and 125 percent poverty in the middle of the county, this area is rural and near and the Peterson Air force Base.
